Overview

Chroma Rotational Molding Division offers the rotational molder alternative foamable polymer products for use in single or multi-layer applications. These polyethylene materials are lightweight and are comprised of closed-cell structure.

Customized Applications

Foamed polyethylene retains all the strength benefits of the base resin, provides added insulation/floatation and exhibits excellent foam-to-skin lamination characteristics, unlike urethane-filled product.

Designs incorporating foamable polyethylene have been applied to outdoor sports gear; personal and commercial watercraft, and to the residential and commercial construction markets. The practicality of its usefulness and value continues to rapidly expand within the plastics industry.

By a unique pelletization process Chroma RMD can produce foamed material with densities ranging from 7 to 30 pounds per cubic foot. Typical polyethylene weighs 58#/ft.

Foam Processes

• Dump Box
  Any of the Chroma foam products can be used in the dump box process.
  
• Foama Bag™
  Chroma's Foama-Bag™ provides a unique mechanism for delayed release of foamed polyethylene material after the sintering of the exterior skin has begun. This technique eliminates the need for a conventional drop box or secondary injection method.
  
• One-Shot Foams
  The product is designed for applications requiring an external skin backed with a layer of foam throughout. Customized color fomulations are available for either layer.

Foamed-Product Line

• Foama-Spheres®
  A fully compounded, UV stabilized, microspherical foamed material, readied for general and specialized applications of rotational molding. The product is specially produced to provide a uniform layering of foam throughout, including those hard-to-fill areas or troublesome molds. Flow rates are often one-half of the standard ground or blended forms.
  
• Foama-Ground
  A fully compounded, UV stabilized and selectively pulverized blend of foamable material, readied for most applications of rotational molding. Designed to flow and fill-in and strengthen areas yet provide selective weight reduction.
  
• Foama-Blend
  A consistent mixture of foamed material readied for rotational molding. Designed for general fill-in of areas, usually not externally exposed.
  
• One-Shot Foams
  A fully compunded, UV stabilized, pelletized material readied for single shot molding of two layers. This One-Shot foam can be used with or WITHOUT a dump box.
